Deaf and Hard of Hearing Research Project

Research project examining literacy outcomes for Deaf and Hard of Hearing pupils in mainstream primary schools – now recruiting participants.

Dr Elizabeth Mathews and Dr Margaret O’Donnell are engaged in a research project, funded by the Education Partnership Group, which aims to examine (a) literacy outcomes for Deaf and Hard of Hearing pupils in mainstream primary schools, and (b) how progress in literacy is measured for Deaf and Hard of Hearing pupils.

The researchers are currently looking for parents/schools who have children/pupils meeting the following criteria:

  • are between 1st – 6th in a mainstream class (i.e. not enrolled in any category of special class/unit)
  • are on the visiting teacher’s active caseload (i.e. receiving occasional visits in the school);

If you are a parent, a teacher, or a principal and you would like to know more about this study, please email Dr Elizabeth Mathews at elizabeth.mathews@dcu.ie or phone 01–8842247.
