Fiona Giblin is a lecturer in Early Childhood Education at DCU Institute of Education, St. Patrick’s Campus and contributes to the BEd, PMEP and MEd programmes. She is the Teaching and Learning Convenor for the School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education. Fiona has previously worked as a primary school teacher and after obtaining her MEd became involved in providing in-service on early childhood education in the former St. Patrick’s College. Fiona has also contributed to the design and delivery of continuing professional development on Aistear, Ireland’s early childhood curriculum framework, throughout the country. She has worked with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), the Association of Teachers Education Centres in Ireland (ATECI), the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) in the development of resources and courses for infant teachers, particularly to support their play pedagogy. Fiona has been invited by Dublin Northside Preparing for Life and Grangegorman Area Based Childhood (ABC) Programmes to facilitate workshops on early years transitions, curriculum and pedagogy. Her research interests include young children’s meaning-making, communication and language development, multimodality, creativity, early childhood curriculum and pedagogy.
