Sandra is a lecturer in Early Childhood Education at the DCU Institute of Education, St. Patrick's Campus. Prior to her appointment in 2017, Sandra was the National Aistear Coordinator for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), managing the ongoing development of the Aistear Síolta Practice Guide (www.aistearsiolta.ie); supporting Síolta Aistear mentors located within CCCs, NVCOs and ABC projects across the country; and designing a 'workshops and coaching model' to facilitate the implementation of Aistear: the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework. In 2008, Sandra was the first Síolta coordinator (now referred to as Síolta Aistear mentors) to be appointed, and worked with 13 early years settings and Junior National Schools in North County Dublin to help them achieve Síolta validation. In 2009, she completed Masters in Child Family and Community Studies with Dublin Institute of Technology, and is currently studying for an Ed.D with The University of Sheffield. Her research and teaching interests include the implementation of Aistear and Síolta, curriculum development in early childhood, emergent and inquiry-based approaches to early learning, technology as a teaching and learning methodology, mathematics in early childhood education and children's citizenship and participation.
