BSc in Marketing, Innovation and Technology, DC240 from DCU Business School
Wednesday 31 May

Within the global economy we are witnessing an increased focus on the progress and application of technology, take for example the development of bio-fuels, wind, and other renewable energy sources or the recent advances in genetically modified foods and smart foods such as probiotic yoghurts and cholesterol lowering spreads, not to mention the evolution of information communications technology spurred by the internet and mobile phone. The modern world is a high-tech world. Indeed, a recent EIU Report notes that "Executives now see technology as one of the most critical forces of change in the global marketplace” and Declan Hughes of the Science, Technology and Innovation Group, Forfas has stated “There is a demand for ‘tech savvy’ marketers across the medium to high tech sectors- from Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to the emerging life-sciences and biotech sector.” It is thus timely and relevant that a degree focussing on Marketing, Innovation and Technology is launched.
The BSc in Marketing, Innovation and Technology, DC240 is an exciting new interdisciplinary Marketing degree offered by DCU Business School in conjunction with the Faculty of Engineering and Computing and the Faculty of Science and Health and is the first of its kind in Ireland.
This four year programme offers the student great variety and caters to industry demand for marketing specialists who can interface effectively between the research bench and customer and achieve marketing success within a range of fast-changing, highly competitive industries such as telecoms, software, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
Graduates of this programme will have an in-depth understanding of marketing techniques, a core grounding in science and technology, as well as knowledge of web design and communications and industrial design.
A key feature of this degree programme is INTRA, the year-long paid work placement in year three, during which students experience the reality of employment in a company operating in the high technology sector. Combined with their technological know-how, this work experience will place graduates at a major competitive advantage when job seeking.
Due to the late launch of this programme, students must apply for DC240 through the CAO Change of Mind option before July 1st 2006.
