About DCU Open Days

We welcome all sixth years, fifth years and transition years as well as guidance counsellors, teachers and parents to our Open Days. The event is packed full of activities so we recommend you come early to get the most from your visit.

Open Day Event Guide

Advisory session for Parents – Saturday 17 November

A talk will take place on Saturday 17 November that will outline how to approach higher education from a parent’s point of view. Presented by DCU Student Support & Development, the advisory session will examine the costs involved in attending college and also the supports available to students. Furthermore it will highlight what parents should look out for and how to tackle any issues that may arise. There will be a talk at 11.30 and 13.30. These will take place in the 1838 club in Albert College.

What happens during Open Days?

Our Open Days are student focused and flexible. All aspects of DCU will be covered as well as information about higher education and university life in general. There will be a variety of opportunities for you and your students to attend course talks, displays and demonstrations, and our lecturers and current students are looking forward to meeting you.

Subject Presentations O'Connor Cup

DCU offers modern degree courses in Business, Engineering, Humanities, Science, Health and Computing. We offer up-to-date approaches to learning and as well as attending lectures, students undertake laboratory work, practical assessments, group projects and web-based learning. The subject presentations will cover:

  • Course content
  • Choices within degrees courses
  • Differences between similar degree courses
  • Work placements and career prospects

Tours of Campus Communications

It is vital that students get a feel for the DCU campus because they will be spending three or four years at university. During Open Days, there will be guided tours of the campus. This will give visitors the opportunity to see the University and experience it during a typical day. The campus tours will take place at regular intervals throughout the day. Highlights of the tour include:

  • The Helix
  • Student Accommodation
  • University Sports Club
  • The John & Aileen O'Reilly Library
  • The Hub Student Centre
  • The Collaborative Learning Cafe
Student Life

The Exhibition Area provides Information Points for you and your students to ask questions or find out more about DCU.

So whether you have a question about fees or sports scholarships, be sure to visit the Exhibition Area. Lecturers from the faculties will also be available in the Exhibition Area to offer individual advice or answer specific queries about courses.

There are a lot of factors to take into consideration when choosing a university. This talk will cover course content, facilities, size and location of university, applying to the CAO, routes into Higher Education, fees and higher education grants.

Students from various clubs & societies will also be present in the Exhibition Area giving demonstrations and offering you the chance to sample student life. There are over 100 clubs & societies to choose from. Joining some of the clubs or societies is probably the easiest way to make friends at university.

Sport at DCU

Representatives from Admissions, Sports & Recreation and the Sports Academy will be available to talk to you at the Exhibition Area about our Sports Scholarships and Elite Sport Entry Scheme .

DCUFMUaneen Module for Extracurricular Excellence

The ‘Uaneen Module' is intended to encourage students to develop their extracurricular activities along with their academic studies. It aims to encourage students to participate and become actively involved through their work with clubs, societies, community work and extra-curricular activity in general. DCU is the only university in Ireland to officially recognise the students' contribution in extracurricular activity and it is supported by IBEC. Information about the Uaneen module can be obtained at the Exhibition Area.
