The DCU Retiree Community has more than 500 members, most of whom keep in touch with the University through an array of activities aimed at both retirees and the wider DCU community.

While we appreciate the ending of your dcu.ie email and associated drive will cause some level of inconvenience for a number of you, we assure you that we do this to ensure better data governance and practices, while further mitigating the risk of a cybersecurity threat to the University. To address the areas of data governance, best practices and cybersecurity, the University has created a new 'Digital Identity Policy' which now applies to all staff in the University which can be viewed here.

We have outlined the various reasons on our Retiree Switch FAQ page here.

We kindly ask that you stay connected with DCU and avail of the opportunities that are available to our retiree community.

If you wish to provide us with your personal email address through the form below, we can keep you up to date with life here at DCU through all the latest news, updates and event invitations.

We have outlined below a number of steps in the process - but if you are experiencing any difficulty, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team at retiree.switch@dcu.ie or come to one of our in-person clinics on campus. Details of the DCU Retiree Switch clinics are outlined further down this webpage.

We know a significant number of our DCU retiree community already use a personal email address when communicating with DCU, and have been using this for some time now. If you are one of these people, we kindly ask that you still review your dcu.ie account and drive to ensure you have everything they need before the accounts are closed.  If you are using a personal email address, or wish to receive communications from DCU to a personal email address in the future, please give us your details below. As a way to say 'thank you', all submissions on this form will be entered into a draw to win one of three €100 'One For All' vouchers.

Remember you can contact our support team at retiree.switch@dcu.ie if you have any issues. The team will be answering any queries between Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm (excluding Bank Holidays)

We will also have four in-person clinics for people who are looking for assistance with Retiree Switch process outlined below. On the day, technical support will be offered and a representative from HR will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. The dates and times of the clinics are listed further below this page under 'Retiree Switch Clinics'

We also have a list of FAQs which can be found here.

Please note that this process must be completed by Friday 2 August 2024 - you will no longer have access to your email or drive after this date and any correspondence sent to your dcu.ie address will fail to deliver.

Step 1: Check your storage limits

In order to keep your data (emails, files, contacts etc) that are in your dcu.ie account, you need to migrate this data to a personal Google account. If you do not have a Google account, we would recommend you set one up for this process as it makes things easier. You can set up a free account here

Free Google personal accounts have a storage limit of 15G.

If you have more than 15G in your DCU account, you have two options:

If your account is over 15G, you will need to select one of the options above before migrating your data.

You can check your google storage by signing into your gmail account and opening this link in a separate tab.

If you do not have a personal Google account and do not wish to set one up, we have some information on our FAQs page (LINK)

Step 2: Check utilities, banking, social media and other services

If your dcu.ie account is linked to any online accounts (social media, streaming services, banking etc), you will also need to change this before you begin the Retiree Switch process.

Please check if your dcu.ie account is used as a sign-in for any platforms for utilities, social media and other services.

You will need to put in your preferred personal email address into each of these platforms.

After Friday 2 August, 2024, your dcu.ie account will no longer exist - any correspondence sent to your email address will fail to deliver.

Step 3: Review your Google Drive, delete files and/or transfer ownership

We ask that you review all content in your DCU personal Google Drive. If there are files that in any way relates to the current business of the University and/or is accessed by your DCU colleagues, please transfer the ownership of these files to your line manager. If this is not possible, please let your line manager know and they will make the necessary arrangements.

If you are unsure as to who to transfer ownership to, please contact the current Head of School or head of department where you worked prior to retirement.
