ICSA India Project

Both Dr. Saravanan and Mr. Surya from IIT Madras, are visiting researchers at DCU under a scheme funded through the ISCA India project . Their project is part of the ongoing research by Dr. Morrissey's and Dr. Nolan's research groups into developing technologies that promote an easier degradation of emerging pollutants, including pharmaceuticals. Specifically, Dr Saravanan's and Mr. Surya's work is focussed on the development of novel advanced oxidation technologies based on combining the adsorptive capacity of a number of different substrates (activated carbon, graphene, mesoporous materials) and combining this with photocatalytic degradation using titanium dioxide (TiO2), either with UV light or sunlight in order to not only remove, but also degrade the pollutants.
