An Evening with David Puttnam and Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh

Third Age in association with DCU Age Friendly University announces an evening of reminiscence and entertainment as film producer David Puttnam and GAA commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh join in conversation with Miriam O’Callaghan to talk about their past achievements, current projects and future goals.

Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh is an Ambassador for Third Age, and David Puttnam has taken a great interest in work supporting ageing well in Ireland.  The two men, (collective ages totaling 161 years) have a lifetime of experience and knowledge to impart. Hear about their significant contributions to their individual professions, their thoughts on its future, and on the challenges facing an ageing Ireland. The evening offers an opportunity for audience participation in a question and answer session when members of the audience may have their say.

This is a unique opportunity to engage with two iconic people who have helped shape the Ireland of today in their own inimitable way.  The evening will be of interest to devotees of film, sport, media, culture, digital, education and public policy.

Third Age is a national voluntary organisation, established almost 30 years ago, promoting the value of the contribution of older people. Third Age has over 1,600 older volunteers working throughout Ireland in socially beneficial programmes, including a help line for older people, befriending and advocating for older people in nursing homes and the community, and offering free classes in conversational English to over 3,000 migrants each week.

DCU is the world’s first Age Friendly University. Since its earliest days, DCU has been committed to widening access to higher education. This includes enhancing the lives of older members of the community through innovative educational programmes, research agenda, curriculum development, online education, health and wellness activities, arts and culture programmes and civic engagement opportunities.  Third Age and DCU have worked together on a number of programmes and events.
