AP303 Embodiment, the Arts and Education

Site Specific Performances in the Botanic Gardens

On Thursday 4th April, students from the AP303 Drama major specialism module presented their site-specific performances in the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin. These pieces represented the culmination of the students’ engagement with the principles and practices of somatic education throughout the semester. The site-specific performance dimension involved the students taking their audience on a journey through a variety of specifically chosen locations within the gardens. During each performance the students engaged with the natural setting in question through embodied awareness, movement, sound and silence in order to bring the audience into deeper connection with the natural environment. The module was facilitated by Paula Murphy from the school of Arts Education and Movement, who has recently completed her doctoral studies on the theme of embodiment in teacher education.
