Application Process

Thank you for submitting an application for postgraduate study with Dublin City University (DCU).

Where you have indicated on your application form a second or third preference, you should note that at any given point in time you will be assessed for one programme only in accordance with the procedure outlined below.

Please note that in order for your application to be processed, all supporting documentation must be submitted in accordance with the instructions outlined here .

In most cases, applications are not considered until after the submission date for the programme. To find out the current submission date for any of the programmes to which you have applied, click the relevant programme link from the online postgraduate prospectus . As your application is processed you will be notified by e-mail to log into your account on the PAC website to obtain updates on the status of your application.

Sequential processing where more than one course is indicated

Applicants may apply for up to three programmes through the Postgraduate Application Centre (PAC). Please note that the choice(s) indicated on your application form will be processed sequentially.

  • When indicating your programme choice(s) please do so in order of preference from 1 to 3.
    (It is not mandatory to indicate a second and third choice unless desired.)
  • On receipt of the application the programme indicated as first preference will be assessed first.
  • The programme indicated as second preference will ONLY be considered:
    • When the first preference application has been unsuccessful; AND
    • The competition for the programme indicated as second preference is still open at the time.
  • The programme indicated as third preference will ONLY be considered if:
    • When the first and second preferences indicated on your application have been unsuccessful; AND
    • The competition for the programme indicated as third preference is still open at the time.
  • If an applicant is offered their first preference, no further assessment will be made on the second or third preference
  • If an applicant is offered their second preference, no further assessment will be made on the third preference
  • There is no guarantee that the programme(s) an applicant indicates as a second or third preference will be considered. Therefore, applicants should give careful consideration to the programme they indicate as first preference.

Please note DCU can only guarantee that first preferences will be assessed.
