INFORMATION: RESIT EXAMINATIONS & CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENTS 2017

If you have failed or deferred modules during the Academic session, these modules should be taken at the next available opportunity as defined in reassessment requirement in the module descriptors (this may be August or the next academic session).  Modules taken in the August are defined as resits for failed and deferred students.

Interpreting your examination results

Information regarding your results is included on the examinations results page and on your transcript. The explanation of result codes is included on the reverse of the transcript and at the bottom of the examination results page. Please ensure that you consult this for any failed or deferred modules to inform you what you need to resit.

R:         Resit examination element only

F:         Fail, resit all elements (Continuous assessment and exam)

S:        Resit assessment element as per module descriptor

X:        Resit failed examination element

W:        Resit failed coursework element

D or I      Deferred/Illness. Resit elements not attempted at first opportunity (CA/Exam or both)

Resit Arrangements

Each module descriptor defines the resit arrangements for the module.  Module descriptors are located at https://www4.dcu.ie/registry/Search-Module-Specifications.shtml

Category 1:          A resit is available for all elements of the module

Category 2:          No resit is available for 100% CA module (this module must be taken as a repeat in the next academic session)

Category 3:          No resit is available for the CA element (must resit exam even if passed exam already)

Resit of Continuous assessments in August

Information regarding continuous assessment resits are available from the module co-ordinator. You are not required to register on-line or pay a fee for outstanding CA elements.

Resit of Deferred Modules in August

If all your modules are deferred, you are not required to register online but if you have a failed result in any module which has a written examination then you must register via your the Student Apps webpage.

Resit written examinations in August

The August re-sit written examinations will take place from Tuesday 8th August to Monday 21st August, inclusive. If you have a failed result in any module which has a written examination, it is essential that you register online at the following link https://www.dcu.ie/studentapps under 'My Details'. Registration will open on Monday 26th June 2017. Students who do not register will not receive results in September and will have to pay a late registration fine.

The August re-sit registration fee is €190 for students who register on or before Thursday 20th July 2017.

A late registration fee of an additional €60 (€250 in total) will apply for students who register from Friday 21st July 2017.

This fee is payable by E-Payment, which is Step 2 of the online registration process.

Additional Information:

Please be advised that if you do not complete your outstanding modules in August, you will be recorded as absent for these modules at the Autumn Progression and Award Boards and will have to retake them the next academic year.
