Pass Mark
The pass mark for all modules is 40%.
Attempts
Candidates are allowed a maximum of four attempts.
Compensation
Students who achieve a mark of between 35% and 39% in two 5-credit modules or a student who achieves a mark of between 35% and 39% in one 10-credit module may be allowed to pass by compensation.
Compensation will only operate where students are attempting a full set of examinations.
Exemption
Candidates who achieve a pass mark in any module are exempt from further examination in that module.
Progression
Automatic progression from Autumn to Spring semesters.
In order to proceed to the next year of their studies, students must have passed, or passed by compensation all modules (cores and options) prescribed by their programme of study.
Honours Classification
In calculating honours the following classification applies:
First Class Honours 70% +
Second Class Honours Grade 1 63% - 69%
Second Class Honours Grade 2 55% - 62%
Pass 40% - 54%
A student who fails a module, or who passes by compensation is not eligible for honours in that year. Furthermore, a student who does not take a full set of examinations is not normally eligible for honours in that year.
