For Academic Year 2006-2007 and henceforth

BNS & BNSCM NS403 Students may compensate between CA/Exam however must
attain a minimum of 35% in the failed element in order to pass the module overall
NS404/ Normally NS403 must be passed priror to commencing NS404 or NS423.
NS423 The PBERC will have the authority to determine whether a student has
adequately completed NS403 and may undertake NS404 or NS423.
Each case will be examined on an individual basis.
   
Access Prog. to the Postgraduate Framework (GNSA) Where a module is comprised of an examination and a continuous
assessment component, each component must be passed separately
by at least 35% in order to pass the module overall - NS401, NS403, NS456
   
Postgraduate Framework Programmes NS501, NS503, NS527, NS530, NS524, NS542, NS522, NS532, NS534, NS544:
All individual assessment components must be passed separately
by at least 40% to pass the module overall
   
Postgraduate Framework Programmes Where a student fails a module and the result is not within compensation,
the exam board team following consultation with the external examiner will have
discretion to determine whether the fail indicates a compromised ability to
function at the expected level of clinical development. If a compromised ability
to practice is determined, the Chair will have discretion to recommend that the
student is not permitted to register for the next modules in the programme until
the failed module is passed. However, if a compromised ability is not determined
(e.g. in the case of extenuating circumstances) the failed module may be
carried forward.
   
Postgraduate Framework Programmes Where a student fails a module and the result is within compensation, s/he will
normally be permitted to carry the module forward. However, if the student's
performance indicates a compromised ability to function clinically at an appropriate
level, the exam board team following consultation with the external examiner may
determine that the student should successfully complete the module before being
permitted to register for the next modules on the programme.
   
GradDip Counselling and Psychotherapy (Turning Point) The exam board team following consultation with the external examiner has
discretion to block progression if a student's performance indicates a compromised
ability to function clinically.
   
GradDip Counselling and Psychotherapy (Turning Point) The course team has responsibility for allowing pre-DCU students to access
the MSc year.
   
BSc NS116: Manual Handling and Breakaway Training are mandatory and must be taken before
Practice Module 1b can be commenced
   
BSc NS118: Both CA and Exam must be passed separately by 40% to pass module overall
Grad Dip Counselling (Couples & Relationship Counselling) NS571 Both elements of assessment must be passed separately to pass module overall
   
Grad Dip Counselling (Couples & Relationship Counselling) All four first year modules must be successfully completed before 2nd year modules undertaken
   
Higher Diploma in Childrens Nursing The pass mark for the programme is 40%. All compensation regulations apply as for existing BSc. In Nursing programmes.
Compensation is not permitted on practice modules. All three practice modules will be graded and will make
up 30% of the overall programme marks. Theoretical content will be graded and results obtained for the six
theoretical modules will make up 70% of the overall programme marks. The classification of degree award is in accordance
with the 'Marks and Standards for University Awards' (DCU)
   
Grad Dip/MSc in Nursing/Healthcare Practice Pass mark 40% in all modules (compensation will not be allowed between modules).
Students must pass each element of the assessment, within each module.
Oral examinations will be considered as an option where students have a borderline pass/distinction
In order to proceed to the MSc programme students must normally achieve a pass mark of 55% in their research module (NS5X)
a cumulative 55% average in their Graduate Diploma and have passed each module on the first attempt.
   
BSc. (Hons) Children's and General Nursing (Integrated) Pass mark for the programme is 40%. All compensation regulations apply as for existing BSc. Programme.
Practice modules must be passed for progression and compensation is not permitted on practice modules.
Practice modules in Years 1 & 2 are awarded a Pass/Fail. Practice modules in Years 3 & 4 are graded and
make up 20% of the overall mark for those years. The overall degree award is calculated on performance in
years 3 & 4, with both years accounting for 50%. Students who fail a module in year 4 will automatically lose
their entitlement to a honours classification. This regulation applys to both practice and academic modules.
The classification of degree award is in accordance with the 'Marks and Standards for University Awards' (DCU)
