RIA Seminar on Public Policy Research

Date: 27 January 2021, 4 pm (Irish Time)

Venue: Online

This will be the first seminar in the Research for Public Policy seminar series, which is a joint initiative of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) and the Irish Research Council (IRC).  We are committed to strengthening and sustaining relationships between researchers, policymakers, and research funders beyond the series, so that together we can build and implement a highly effective national framework for integrating relevant and cutting-edge research into policy development across Government. The time is now. We hope you will join us.

The creation of a new Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and the foundational role of public health expert advice in managing the COVID-19 crisis make this the ideal moment to reimagine and strengthen the connections between research and public policy in Ireland. This seminar opens the series by outlining both the need and the exciting opportunities to better integrate the worlds of research and policy for the greater good.

Speakers:

  • Welcome: Mary Canning, President of RIA
  • Simon Harris TD, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science
  • Professor Peter Clinch, Chair of SFI
  • Jane Grimson, MRIA, former Chair of HRB
  • Moderator: Jane Ohlmeyer, MRIA, Chair of IRC
