The HRB are now inviting applications to the third round of the Secondary Data Analysis Projects call (SDAP 2023).
NEW: This is a rolling call and as such there will be one round launched in 2022 with two separate closing dates and associated peer review cycles. The closing date for Cycle 1 is the 15th of December 2022. The closing date for Cycle 2 is the 4th of October 2023.
Details:
Aligned with the objectives set out in the HRB Strategy 2021-2025, this scheme will enable the use of data to shape health policy, enhance healthcare delivery, and drive broader research and innovation initiatives. As part of this objective, the specific action to ‘Invest in research projects which employ secondary data analysis and record linkage’ was identified as being essential to support this.
The awards will support proposals typically between 18-24 months duration where the findings from the research will have direct relevance to policy and/or practice in the Irish health and social care system. This should involve close collaboration of researchers with non-academic stakeholders (policy makers and data controllers). The proposed research should be explicitly linked to the documented evidence needs of the knowledge user organisation. The HRB recognises that some data sets are not currently in an accessible format. Therefore, they strongly welcome projects that include the development of tools to make data sets accessible and/or more widely available. In these cases, the duration of the award may be up to 36 months, with up to 12 months dedicated to the development of such tools. Proposals must include at least one existing Irish or International dataset in order to be eligible for this call. Applications may be related to, but must be distinct from, the specific aims of the original data collection.
Funding will be up to a maximum of €250,000 per award.
Who should apply?
Applications should be made on behalf of a team made up of researchers, knowledge users and data controllers/processors.
Main changes from last round
• Third objective added of enhancing capacity for further research of this nature in Ireland through upskilling, training and education of team members where possible.
• Increased focus on knowledge translation.
Deadline
Cycle 1 deadline: 15 December 2022 @ 1pm
Cycle 2 deadline: 4 October 2023 @1pm
