Biography

Dr Catherine Connolly is a 2019 - 2020 Irish Research Council - Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Law and Government, DCU, where she is working on adapting her PhD dissertation for publication as a monograph. Her PhD dissertation examined the international legal and political questions raised by the United States of America's use of armed drones and its targeted killing programme, and argued that U.S. actions in the 'war on terror' are indicative of the continuing presence of the doctrine of Kriegsraison in international law, and of the broader imperial character of U.S. foreign policy and international law.

Her research interests include critical international law, Marxist approaches to international law, and critical security studies.

Catherine holds an MA (Distinction) in War Studies from King's College London, and a BA in International Relations from DCU, and has professional policy experience with the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
