Dr Brid Murphy is an Associate Professor in Accounting in DCU Business School. Her principal research interests focus on the impact of  technological and regulatory developments on the accounting profession, and issues in accounting education, with specific emphasis on the development of non-technical competences. Brid's teaching lies primarily in the areas of auditing, ethics, governance and accounting. She is a fellow member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and has worked as an accounting practitioner in Ireland and overseas in small, medium and large companies. Brid's regularly presents her research at both national and international conferences and publishes in leading peer-reviewed academic journals, including Accounting Forum, Accounting Education and Accounting History.

Research Interests

Brid's research focuses on two key research strands:  the impact of external issues on the accounting profession, with specific attention to impacts arising from technological and regulatory innovations; and issues in accounting education, with specific concentration on the development of non- technical competences.

Teaching Interests

Brid is an experienced, innovative and committed teacher and has co-ordinated and taught modules across a wide spectrum at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has been the programme director role on three DCU Business School programmes: BA in Accounting in Finance, MSc in Accounting, MSc in International Accounting and Business. Brid has also been a visiting professor with the DCU@PNU team since 2017, delivering a core module on the MSc in Business Administration at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University in Saudi Arabia.
