Fionnuala Waldron

Professor Emerita DCU and Cregan Professor of Education, Fionnuala Waldron is Co-Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education. From 2009 - 2016 Fionnuala was Head of Education and Dean of Education in St Patrick's College, Drumcondra. She was appointed leader of the Education Workstream which was set up to establish the DCU Institute of Education in 2013. From 2015 to 2016, Fionnuala was Interim Executive Dean of the DCU IoE. In 2014, Fionnuala was awarded a Cregan Professorship.
Fionnuala began her career in education as a primary teacher before becoming a teacher educator with a specialisation in history education in 1999. Since then, her research interests have grown to include teacher education (policy and practice), human rights and citizenship education and global citizenship education. In 2005, Fionnuala established the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education in collaboration with colleagues in St Patrick's College and with Amnesty (Ireland). In 2012, she initiated a doctoral strand in teacher education as part of the Doctorate in Education (EdD) in St Patrick’s College. She went on to establish the CREATE research programme in teacher education and is a founding member of the CREATE21 Research Centre. In addition to her work in history education and human rights education, Fionnuala chairs the Write to Read Literacy Project.
