Assistant Professor, School of Computing, Dublin City University.
I am the module coordinator and expert panel lead for the Data Literacy and Analytics module rolling out to all ten DCU futures programs. As part of the HCI initiative, I am also working with the Dean for Strategic Learning Innovation and the Transversal Skills Program Director.
Based in the School of Computing, I am involved in the teaching and supervision of MSc and PhD students. I am a collaborator in the ADAPT and Lero research centres.
Previously, I was a Senior Research Fellow (2020-2021) in the Future Software Systems Architecture (FSSA) project in the Lero Research Centre at the School of Computing, DCU. From 2019 to 2021, I have been a funded principal investigator on the ChIA project affiliated with the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. ChIA is a Digital Humanities research project aiming to enhance the access and analysis of cultural data by testing semantic tools and AI technologies on cultural and historical images.
I have had worked as a postdoctoral researcher in ADAPT on the ExploreAt project (from April 2017 to May 2020) focusing on the semantic web technology, ontology engineering, knowledge representation, and natural language processing applied to digital humanities, linguistics, and lexicography.
I was one of the core researchers of the Dr Inventor project in the School of Computing at Maynooth University. I have had contributed to the development of a computational creativity system that assists researchers in finding new research ideas using analogical reasoning, natural language processing, semantic web technologies and graph analysis.
I work as an associate faculty at the National College of Ireland, School of Computing delivering modules including Algorithms and Advanced Programming, Databases, Data Analytics, and Research Methods.
Before I arrived in Ireland, I was a lecturer in the Information Science Department at Addis Ababa University. I also worked as a graduate assistant and a chief librarian at Rift Valley University College. I had worked as a national coordinator of the Health Information Systems Project (HISP) and the BENISH project in a collaboration with Addis Ababa University and the University of Oslo.
