Prof. Marina Efthymiou is a Professor of Aviation Management at Dublin City University Business School. Prior to this, she worked for the University of West London and before that for EUROCONTROL - the International Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation based in Brussels.

Prof. Efthymiou holds a PhD in Sustainable Aviation Policy, an MSc in Tourism Strategy, and a BSc in Business. Recognized both nationally and internationally, she is an expert in Sustainable Aviation and Air Transport Management. Prof. Efthymiou is a frequent participant in policy discussions for prestigious bodies such as the OECD, European Commission, and European Parliament, and she regularly acts as an expert evaluator for the European Commission. Marina presents her work at academic conferences but also major industry conferences including IATA ADS, GAD, and Air Finance Leasing. She also contributes to media outlets like Bloomberg, RTE, the Irish Times and Politico.

An active member of the academic community, Prof. Efthymiou serves on the boards of the Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Aviation Management, and the Journal of Air Transport Research Society, and is involved with the German Aviation Research Society and the Hellenic Aviation Society. She held positions on the committee of the European Aviation Conference, the Aviation Management and Economics Conference and the Transport Research Arena. She has also been involved in various projects including the ICAO Action Plan for environmental improvements. She led the industry-funded 'Diversity and Inclusion in Aviation' project among other initiatives. She is also the Principle Investigator for the EC funded MSCA project AZER02050.

Prof. Efthymiou has collaborated with over 35 scholars and published more than 40 papers in prestigious books and journals such as the Annals of Tourism Research and the Journal of Air Transport Management. Her research primarily focuses on Sustainable Aviation, Air Traffic Management, and airline and airport business models.

Her accolades include the DCU Business School young research award in 2023 and the DCU President's Award for Distinctive Approach to Innovation in Teaching in 2022. In 2017, she received the ‘Best Research Paper’ accolade at the European Aviation Conference for her work on the Emissions Trading Scheme in Aviation. In 2022, she was recognized among the Top 100 women in aviation and airspace on LinkedIn.

Prof. Efthymiou is an IATA instructor and has delivered numerous executive training courses internationally on topics including sustainable aviation and airline management.

Her book, 'Air Traffic Management - Principles, Performance, Markets', published by Taylor and Francis/Routledge, is a notable contribution to the field, blending industry insights with academic rigor.
