Dr Mingming Liu is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Electronic Engineering at Dublin City University (DCU). He received his B. Eng (1st Hons, ranked 1st) in Electronic Engineering from the National University of Ireland Maynooth in 2011 and his PhD from the Hamilton Institute at the same university in 2015 when he was 26. He has several years of experience in machine learning, control and optimisation theories with strong links to electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, IoT, smart grids, smart transportation and smart cities.
Prior to DCU, he worked at IBM Ireland Lab as a data scientist, applied researcher and project lead, where he had been involved in several EU H2020 projects, including Chariot, VI-DAS, ICONET and 5G-Solutions. He was the work package lead for VI-DAS and 5G-Solutions at IBM. Before his role at IBM, he worked at University College Dublin as a (senior) postdoctoral researcher with a focus on both EU and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded projects, including Green Transportation and Networks (SFI) and Enable-S3 (H2020). He is an IEEE Senior Member and he has published several top-tier journals in his research fields, including “IEEE Transactions on Smart Grids”, “IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems”, “IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering”, "IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification", "IEEE System Journal", "Nature Scientific Reports" and “Automatica”. Since 2018, he has secured more than 1.5 million euros in research funding from various sources as an independent PI. Also, he has also actively participated in many academic activities, including technical committees, organisation committees and management committees at both national and international levels. He is the management committee member for Ireland in the EU COST Action CA19126, CA20138 and CA21131.
