Dr Amy Hall is the Funding Development Officer (FDO) for Insight@DCU, where she is responsible for developing and delivering the NE-NC funding strategy. This role includes leading Insight@DCU’s Funding Development Team, developing individual NE-NC funding pipelines for researchers in the Centre, identifying NE-NC funding opportunities, building new national and international collaborations, and supporting researchers with proposal preparation and submission. Dr Hall joined Insight in October 2018 as a Research Integration Coordinator (RIC) in Insight@DCU. As an RIC, Dr Hall’s primary responsibility was leading project management across multiple research projects, with her portfolio including Insight targeted and industry-funded projects, and projects funded by SFI, EI, the SEAI and the EPA. As an RIC she also worked as part of Insight@DCU’s Funding Development Team, focusing on Exchequer and Non-Exchequer funding. Dr Hall changed roles from RIC to FDO in March 2022. Dr Hall obtained a BA (Hons) degree in Physics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Nanoscale Science and Technology from The University of Sheffield. She was awarded her PhD in 2015 by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Sheffield for her work characterising the surface adhesion of human pathogens Leishmania mexicana and Streptococcus pneumoniae using force microscopy techniques. Following her PhD, Dr Hall worked as a postdoctoral researcher and team leader on two EI-funded projects: a Commercialisation Fund (in the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute in DCU) and an Innovation Partnership (in the Fraunhofer Project Centre at DCU), both projects falling within the field of microfluidic diagnostics for the healthcare sector. Dr Hall also lectured in DIT, running Biochemistry lab classes in the School of Biological Sciences and coordinating and delivering the Research Methods and Entrepreneurship for Engineers modules in the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering.
