I am an Associate Professor in General Nursing in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health. I obtained my PhD, MSc (Cancer Care) and BSc (General Nursing) and PG Certificate (Statistics) and PG Diploma (Higher Education) from Trinity College Dublin.

   My research interests span the areas of supportive and palliative care in cancer and chronic illness. Fundamentally, my research aims to enhance understanding of the health and well-being of people affected by cancer, including the personal, social and healthcare factors which influence these outcomes. My research focuses on patient-reported outcomes and the development of complex interventions to 1) address unmet needs of people affected by cancer and chronic illnesses; 2) support the development of self-management skills; and 3) empower individuals to navigate the uncertainty of cancer and its consequences. Digital technologies, multidisciplinary clinical-academic partnerships and public and patient participation and collaboration are integral to my programme of research.

  I am a member of the EU Cancer Mission Board. I am also an Executive Board Member of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS); I have held several leadership roles within the organisation. I have been a member of the EONS Research Working Group since January 2018 and was appointed Chair of the Research Working Group in September 2020.
