Dr Áine Travers is an Assistant Professor at the DCU School of Psychology. She is interested in interdisciplinary research with social justice applications, including gender-based violence prevention and expanding access to evidence-based intervention for under-served groups. Her research addresses issues at the intersection of psychology, human rights, global health and sustainable development.

Áine completed her Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD fellowship in Psychotraumatology at the University of Southern Denmark in 2020. She also holds a BA in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin, and an MA in Human Rights and Democratisation from the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice, Italy.

Dr Travers is Principal Investigator of an international research project, funded by the Wellcome Trust, investigating experiences and impacts of intimate partner violence in the LGBTQI+ community. She is also PI of a research partnership between DCU and Makerere University in Uganda, examining intimate partner violence among refugee and IDP communities.

Previously, Dr Travers worked as a Research Fellow at the Trinity Centre for Global Health on the USAID-funded Missing Link project, developing new guidance for the supportive supervision of mental health workers in humanitarian settings, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Dr Travers also has several years of experience working with NGOs and in the public sector, advocating on areas such as gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, mental health and gender-based violence prevention.
