Leona Bannon

Leona Bannon is a critical care nurse and Assistant Professor in General Nursing at Dublin City University. She is an early career researcher passionate about driving a collaborative programme of nurse-led critical care research. In 2015, Dr. Bannon succeeded in obtaining a Doctoral Fellowship Award from the Public Health Agency, Northern Ireland £150 350, heading the design of her doctoral programme working with Professor Bronagh Blackwood. She was part of the Northern Ireland Clinical Trials Unit (NICTU) working with Professor Danny McAuley on impactful clinical trials, including HARP 2 and LEOPARDS. Leona is a registered nurse and holds a BSc. (Hons) Degree Nursing Science (2004) and PhD. Medicine (2021) from Queen's University Belfast.

Leona is a member of the HRB Irish Critical Care Clinical Trials Network (HRB-ICC-CTN) and a member of the Irish Critical Care Nurse Researcher group (ICCNRG) and has established links with NI Clinical Research Network for Critical Care.

Leona has directly contributed to the evidence base on non-pharmacological interventions for delirium by conducting; a systematic review and meta-analysis of the evidence (Intensive Care Medicine); qualitative stakeholder interviews (Australian Critical Care Nursing Journal, Best Research Paper Award (2018)); and developing the research protocol and study materials.
