March Graduations at DCU

March Graduations at DCU

Over 1,800 students will graduate from DCU over the next two days (Friday 25th and Saturday 26th March).

Five separate ceremonies will take place in the O’Mahony Hall in The Helix, and feature students from the university’s five faculties; the DCU Business School, the Institute of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science & Health, and the Faculty of Engineering & Computing.

In welcoming the class of 2021 to the Helix, DCU President Professor Daire Keogh congratulated them all for their hard work and acknowledged those who were there to support them in achieving their goals.

“The education of our students, the provision of a “transformative student experience” is at the heart of everything we do. It’s the very purpose of our university. And so, I want to congratulate today’s graduates on their achievement. This is the day that you worked hard for, a day that you dreamed of. Now it has arrived. You are graduates of Dublin City University. A round of applause for our graduates!

“Behind every success story, there’s a support structure, a backroom team, unsung heroes. So, as we celebrate your success, it’s also a moment to recognise the contribution of all of those who supported you along the way. Graduates, please stand and show your appreciation to your parents, guardians, family members, partners and others, with a round of applause.”

The first group to graduate featured students from the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy & Community Health, many of whom worked on the frontline in our hospitals during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Professor Keogh paid a special tribute to these students and staff from the School who set up one of the first Covid-19 contract tracing centres in the country. This involved hundreds of hours of voluntary work to support the national effort during the first wave of Covid-19.

“Despite what was a very challenging time for you personally, you showed all of the qualities we expect from DCU students - empathy, resilience, professionalism and dedication. Thank you.”
