LGBTQIA+ Pride 2025 at DCU
This Pride month, Dublin City University will play host to a number of events and activities organised by Pride+, the University’s dedicated staff network for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies.
Marriage Equality Referendum Anniversary Discussion Panel
Tuesday 27 May, 12:30-13:30
Solas Room, second floor, U Building, Glasnevin campus
May 2025 marks ten years since the people of Ireland said ‘Yes’ to marriage equality in a landmark referendum. Much of the referendum’s success was down to a well-organised grassroots campaign, of which several DCU alumni played key roles.
To mark the anniversary of the referendum and reflect on its legacy, in the context of current issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities, all DCU staff are invited to a lunchtime discussion panel session with some DCU alumni who were involved in the Marriage Equality campaign:
— Dr Gráinne Healy, a co-founder and Chairwoman of Marriage Equality Ireland and co-director of Yes Equality;
— Craig Dwyer, Social Media Director for Yes Equality;
— Patrick Sweeney, Social Enterprise Strategy Lead for Yes Equality

Pride Under Pressure: A Workshop on LGBTQ+ Rights, Realities and Action
Thursday 5 June, 10:00-11:30
Glasnevin campus
In the current social, political, and cultural climate, LGBTQ+ rights are at risk around the globe. With disinformation, anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment, and hate crimes on the rise, especially in regard to the transgender community, it is more important than ever to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and colleagues at work and at home. Join Certified Proud's Benjamin Foley (he/him) for an insightful training workshop this Pride month. Learn how to recognise and combat disinformation around transgender issues, understand the issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community today, and how you can become an active ally in supporting LGBTQ+ staff, students, friends, and family. This workshop will also include a Q&A session, during which Benjamin is delighted to answer your burning questions about the LGBTQ+ community, share his lived experiences as a transgender man, and help you figure out the best way to navigate any challenges you may be facing in being an LGBTQ+ ally.
Register to attend via Core HR.

DCU Pride in Teaching & Research
Thursday 12 June, 10:30-14:30

Members of the DCU community will share their research and teaching practices as they relate to LGBTQIA+ issues and topics. This event will facilitate DCU’s LGBTQIA+ community to come together to meet, network and make visible their work and impact, through the lens of teaching and research. Presenters from across the Institute of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Health, and DCU Business School will present on topics such as queer literature and poetry, homophobic language in sport, gender neutral language learning, and more.
The event will also feature the launch of "G-Book 3: Audience engagement activities for the social and emotional education of EU teens through gender-positive literature and digital technology (2024-2027)", part of the EU-funded Creative Europe project, of which DCU is a partner.
This event is open to all staff in DCU, whether academic, research, or professional, as well as postgraduate students and postdoc researchers, and undergraduate students.

March with us!
Dublin Pride, Saturday 28 June and Dublin Trans & Intersex Pride, Saturday 12 July
The theme for Dublin Pride this year is ‘Taking Liberties’. It celebrates the anniversaries of the Marriage Equality Referendum, Gender Recognition Act, and Children and Family Relationship Act, whilst recognising that such liberties should never be taken for granted.
The Dublin Pride parade is the highlight of Pride Month. In 2024, DCU proudly marched as a group for the first time. Join us Saturday 28 June as we continue our new tradition of marching together - both students and staff - under our banner of DCU - Diversity Connects Us.
The parade starts at 12.30 and lasts approximately 2 hours, marching from O’Connell St to Merrion Square. All friends and allies of DCU’s LGBTQIA+ community are welcome to join us.
For the first time in 2025, DCU will also take part in the Trans & Intersex Pride March, specifically focussed on raising awareness of issues facing our trans, non-binary and intersex siblings, whose rights are among those most fiercely being attacked worldwide.
This march takes place on Saturday 12 July, commencing at City Hall on Lord Edward Street at 2pm.
If you are interested in participating in one or both of these marches, please register here so we have an idea of numbers and can coordinate our participation.
About Pride+ in DCU
DCU is an organisation that takes pride in its diversity. In early 2024, the EDI Unit in DCU People invited LGBTQIA+ colleagues and proud allies to join a Pride Planning Group ahead of June 2024 to lead on the development of a programme of events to celebrate Pride in DCU.
Pride is not just for June but is a year-round commitment. With that in mind, the Pride Planning Group evolved into a dedicated staff network for members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as their allies called Pride+, with its mission; "Diversity Connects Us".
