Lectures in Your Library, University-style lectures in the community

Lectures in Your Library

DCU's Office of Civic Engagement works with Dublin Northwest Partnership as well as the Finglas and Ballymun libraries to offer university-style lectures to the community.

The Office of Civic Engagement, working in partnership with Dublin Northwest Partnership and the Finglas and Ballymun Libraries, has delivered its newest initiative to offer free university-style education to the local community - Lectures in Your Library.

Lectures in Your Library is a completely free programme open to the community. It is a 12-week programme which consists of 1 session per week. For this programme, the subjects included Politics, Psychology and Media. Each subject was explored over 4 weeks, consisting of 4 interactive lectures.

This programme aimed to provide a stress free and easily accessible environment for everyone to enjoy learning - There are no exams or tests as part of this programme. This initiative provides an environment where the community can engage with university-style education and, if they wish, learn of potential pathways and supports if they were to consider returning to education.

Participants attend all 12 weeks as the subjects’ content offers opportunities to discuss, debate and learn about people, events and the workings of modern society.

The first iteration of Lectures in Your Library was delivered as a pilot programme. However, after positive feedback, the Office of Civic Engagement plan to continue the partnership and delivery new and exciting iterations of Lectures in Your Library.
