DCU and Fingal County Council

DCU and Fingal County Council share a long-standing partnership focused on regional economic and skills development, civic collaboration, and sustainability.

DCU and Fingal County Council have one of the University’s longest-established partnerships. Across a range of activities, the collaboration has been an engine for the economic development of the region for more than 40 years.

Both organisations were central to delivering the objectives of the EU-funded ROUND Programme for North Dublin between 1994 and 1995. The initiative supported business creation and provided customised training and skills development for the community.

In 1996, both DCU and Fingal County Council were founding members of the North Dublin Coalition Limited (NorDubCo), which was established to facilitate the social, economic and civic development of North Dublin. NorDubCo’s primary activities include the publication of research as well as the hosting of seminars and conferences. Its published research has included The North Dublin Skills and Employment Analysis and An Analysis of the Impact of the National Asset Management Agency in North Dublin.

Today, the partnership continues to focus largely on advancing skills development and economic development in the region. DCU expertise informs the development of Fingal’s Economic Strategy and its Skills Strategy.

Collaborations

Within the Fingal region, DCU plays a key role in a variety of projects.

DCU, Fingal County Council and daa are engaged in a collaboration to explore increasing the sustainability of the aviation sector in the region. The agreement involves DCU researchers working with daa and Fingal County Council to develop practical and impactful solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the sector on the region.

Academics from DCU provide expertise and evidence-based advice as part of their membership of a range of advisory committees and action groups in the Fingal region.

DCU is a partner in the €50m Balbriggan Regeneration Project. The project is implementing a range of public infrastructure improvements aimed at rejuvenating ‘Ireland’s youngest town’.

DCU hosts an annual skills fair for Transition Year students. Xplore Your Future shows students the full range of opportunities available to them, from apprenticeships to University courses.
