The MSCA Doctoral Networks (DNs) aim to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative doctoral candidates, able to face current and future challenges and to convert knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit. The MSCA DNs provide enhanced career perspectives in both the academic and non-academic sectors through international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral mobility combined with an innovation-oriented mind-set.
A typical Doctoral Network is an international consortium of host organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors, including organisations based in Member States and Associated countries. If necessary, the Doctoral Networks can also include participants from host organisations outside Europe.
MSCA-NET (network of MSCA NCPs) has recently published the MSCA-NET DN handbook which provides detailed information on how to write Part B proposal for this call. You can download the handbook here .

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has launched the Industry RD&I Fellowship Programme 2022 (Call B), which seeks to support academia-industry interactions in order to address industry‐informed challenges.
Awards under this programme can be made to academic researchers (at faculty and postdoctoral level) wishing to spend time in industry worldwide through the temporary placement of academic researchers with an industry partner.
The submission deadline (Call B) is 13:00 (Dublin local time) on the 19th October 2022.

Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the Advanced Laureate Awards are currently being accepted. The Advanced Laureate Awards are for established, leading principal investigators who want funding to pursue ground-breaking, high-risk research.
Applications can be made in any area of research and applicants must be 15 years post PhD. The projects can be up to 4 years duration and the maximum award value is €1M.
EoIs have to be submitted via the Research Office. The deadline for submission of the EoI to the Research Office is 6th October 2022.
IRC have also revised the timeline for the Laureate awards and the new timeline for the call is:
- Expression of Interest Deadline: 10th October 2022
- Call Open: 3rd October 2022
- FAQ deadline: 2nd December 2022
- Deadline for applications: 9th December 2022 at 4pm
- Outcome: TBC

There are 2 SFI National Challenge Fund calls currently open:
1) 2050 Challenge – seeks transformative, forward-looking solutions to Ireland becoming climate neutral and resilient by 2050;
2) Future Digital Challenge - seeks to realise transformational societal and economic impact from disruptive digital technologies
Key points for this programme:
- Proposals must be solution-focused
- Validation/evidence of a problem in advance of application submission will strengthen your application
- Having a Societal Impact Champion at the application stage is not mandatory but strongly advised
- Solutions must rely on or are directly informed by a STEM innovation (BUT: proposals can be led by researchers from both AHSS and STEM)
- Inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral proposals with active stakeholder engagement are strongly encouraged
- Engagement with SFI Challenges Team (e.g. attendance of regional workshops, one-to-one meetings) at the proposal stage is strongly encouraged. Contact ecaterina.mcdonagh@dcu.ie to organise an online meeting with the SFI Challenges Team.

Awards (€500,000 - €1,000,000 (direct costs)) provide larger scale funding for innovative, collaborative and excellent research programmes that have the potential to deliver economic and societal impact.

The 2023-2024 Fulbright Irish Awards are now open for those wishing to research, study or lecture in the USA.

The Fulbright Awards provide grants for Irish citizens, and E.U. citizens resident in the Republic of Ireland for 5+ years, to research, study, or lecture in the USA.
There are five types of Fulbright grants available to Irish and E.U. citizens:
- Fulbright Irish Student Awards to conduct postgraduate research / enrol in postgraduate degree programs in the U.S.
- Fulbright Irish FLTA Awards to teach the Irish language in the U.S.
- Fulbright Irish Scholar Awards for academic or professional research / lecturing in the U.S.
- Fulbright Irish TechImpact Awards to conduct academic or professional research in the U.S.
- Fulbright Irish Schuman Awards for graduate & postgraduate study, research & lecturing in the U.S.
Fulbright Campus Ambassadors can offer advice to applicants.
Sponsored Scholar Awards include HRB, EPA, Teagasc, Creative Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, GSI and others.

The Charlemont Grant scheme facilitates early career researchers to make short international visits from Ireland for the conduct of primary research in any subject area.
Applicants are invited to apply for funding of up to €2,500 under this scheme and are required to demonstrate that Academy funds are sought for a clearly defined, discrete piece of research, which will have an identifiable outcome on completion of the Academy-funded component of the project.
This scheme is open until Monday, 1st November 2022 and all queries can be directed to grants@ria.ie.

The Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) Ignite Network at Dublin City University is now accepting applications for the first round of its Seed Funding Call supporting PPI activities in health and social care research.
The purpose of the call is to provide funding to enable applicants to develop and advance meaningful public and patient involvement activities at any stage in the research lifecycle.
Applicants can request between €100 and €1,500. The total budget available for the first Round of this call is €3,000.
The lead applicant must be a member of DCU academic/research staff, at any career stage.
