Profile Photo

I qualified as a general nurse and midwife and worked in the UK, Middle East, Asia and Africa before returning to Ireland to complete a Higher Diploma in Public Health Nursing followed by a MSc in Community Health. I subsequently undertook a PhD in Health Services and Population Health Research funded by the HRB Scholar’s Programme from 2007-2011. This was followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship in cardiovascular epidemiology (2013-2016) at the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) at Trinity College funded by the HRB Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement (ICE) award scheme. Subsequent Knowledge Exchange and Dissemination (KEDS) funding from the HRB facilitated country wide dissemination of the hypertension research findings to primary care staff. This work also led to a collaboration with the British and Irish Hypertension society and the development of continuous professional education programmes on hypertension.

My current role in DCU is focused on community health and ageing with a particular emphasis on technology to support independent living.
