Academic biography

Martina is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy & Community Health, where she is Programme Chair for the BSc Nursing (Intellectual Disability) programme. Her research focuses on advancing person-centred practice in residential services for older adults with intellectual disabilities. She is currently a Faculty Fellow at the Golisano Institute for Intellectual and Developmental Disability Nursing, at John Fisher University. Martina is an experienced Registered Nurse for People with Intellectual Disabilities (RNID) with over 25 years’ experience across clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. She has worked extensively in the UK and Ireland in mental health assessment and treatment, respite care, and community nursing. Her expertise lies in qualitative and mixed-methods research, contributing to the evidence base informing best practice. Martina is committed to bridging the gap between research and practice to improve health outcomes and promote meaningful, person-centred care for people with intellectual disabilities.
