My name is Therese Leufer and I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Human Sciences in Dublin City University. My clinical nursing background was neuroscience nursing where I specialised in neurosurgical intensive care and worked in a number of neurosurgical units in the greater London area. I completed a BSc (Hons) in Health Studies at SouthBank University, London. I moved into nurse education in 1998 as a P/T lecturer at the University of Greenwich where I completed both a Post Graduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Higher Education enabling registration as a Practitioner/ Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, FHEA (U.K.). Following relocation to Ireland in 1999 I worked as a Nurse Tutor in the School of Nursing in Beaumont Hospital. I commenced my current role as Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Nursing in the School of Nursing & Human Sciences, DCU in 2002 following the assimilation of pre-registration nurse education into the higher education sector. I have undertaken a variety of roles within the school including Deputy Programme Chair (BSc. Hons in Nursing programme), Undergraduate Teaching Convener, Programme Chair (MSc in Nursing/Healthcare Practice), Coordinator of the Qualitative Research Summer School (QRSS) and have taken a lead role in both Stand Alone module/curriculum development at both undergraduate and post-graduate level. I have recently completed my Doctorate of Education Degree (Bris) where my thesis focused on Evidence-based Practice in Nurse Education.
