Value:

€24,003 per year

€16,002 goes directly to the student.  The remainder funds other forms of support such as fees, appropriate travel and other expenses

Eligible:

  • A small number of awards will be available to exceptional candidates from non EU member states to enable them to carry out research at institutions in Ireland.

  • Apart from this, applications are restricted to citizens of the European Union (EU) who are ordinarily resident within a member state of the EU.

  • Applicants must normally have a first or upper second class honours primary degree, or the equivalent.

  • The competition is open to those:
    (a) proposing to commence their first postgraduate research degree during 2008
    (b) who hold a postgraduate degree (Masters) awarded for taught programmes.
    (c) who have been awarded a Masters degree by research and wish to apply for funding in order to pursue a PhD
    (d) who have completed and submitted to their institution, a transfer report in order to transfer from the masters register to the PhD register. This transfer report must be a dissertation equivalent to a submission for the degree of Masters by research

  • Applicants must:
    - have been provisionally accepted by a head of department/school
    - be formally accepted by the relevant department/school by September 15 2008

  • Scholarships will be awarded only to those who are full-time students and who will engage fulltime in research during the period of the Scholarship

Duration:

3 Years for PhD, 1 Year for Masters

  • The academic record and research preparation of the candidate

  • The personal statement

  • Referees statements

  • Research Proposal

Closing Date:

27th February, 2008

10th August 2007 (There will be a summer call at a similar date in 2008)
