All Institutions/Schools currently eligible to apply to
SFI for funding under the Principal Investigator programme and the Maths
Initiative are eligible to apply for the Stokes programme.

All prospective Stokes post holders will be expected to
have a proven record of internationally recognized independent research
accomplishments and to have at least two years of independent research
experience beyond the Ph.D. or equivalent* (longer in the case of
Professors).

Candidates holding permanent posts in any Irish Higher
Education Institution are ineligible

Post hoc evaluation will assess the quality of the
candidates appointed to the Stokes posts, their success in gaining further
funding (from SFI or other agencies such as Wellcome Trust, Gates
Foundation, or European Research Council)

Candidates appointed to a Stokes post are obliged as a
condition of this award to apply for an SFI Principal Investigator Award
(or equivalent, as discussed above) no later than 18 months following the
date of their appointment (although they would usually be expected to do
so much earlier).
