Final Year Computing and Engineering Students Mean Business!

Dan Malone and Vadim Clyne-Kelly are moving into their 4th year in Computer Applications but are already active in business before they graduate. Both of these CA students along with three other DCU Mechanical and  Manufacturing with Business Engineering students Josef Kunik, Richard Parker and Ken Bourke are already active in business. They are flying under the name of 'Agile Payments', and are one of around 8 companies currently involved in the DCU run UStart accelerator, who have given them some start up capital and office space. They are also involved in an Intel & Berkley sponsored accelerator, concluding with a pitch in Silicon Valley to venture capitalists. Although Dan and Vadim are moving into fourth year, Dan is currently holding down the CTO role, while Vadim is the CIO(Innovation Officer).  Their idea is based around electronic payment systems for festivals in Ireland making the festival experience hassle free! The aim of Agile Payments is to eliminate the physical aspect of cash from festivals and events around Ireland and therefore reduce theft, loss and long queuing times. An individual will be able to purchase goods and services at an event using an NFC enabled wristband that will be topped up prior or at the event itself. The service is instantaneous, can be used in remote areas and allows for customisation and integration of services. It includes novel ticketing services whereby the wristband can be used as an entry to the festival or to the car park that would result in increased security and efficiency at a festival.  Best of luck on their new ventures
