Two students awarded National Championship titles

Congratulations to Matthew Callinan Keenan and Jack Raftery for winning National Championship titles in their respective sports!

Matthew Callinan Keenan (Left), final-year Data Science student at DCU, won the National Championship title for the men’s pole vault. Matthew won the title with an astounding 4.80m pole vault jump. This was Matthew’s third Irish senior indoor title at the Sport Ireland arena.

Jack Raftery (Right), DCU Mechanical Engineering student, won the National Championship title for the men’s 400m. Jack (number 835) broke David Gillick’s previous championship record with an astounding 46.37. Due to his impressive world ranking, Jack has a chance of competing for the European Indoors even though he was just 0.02 off the automatic qualifying time. 

The National Indoor Championships, which took place this weekend in Abbotstown, is an annual indoor competition organised by Athletics Ireland. The Championship is the Irish National championship for 28 events of different sports.
