Kudos to the 2025 Qualcomm Research Scholarship Award Recipients!

Mark Collins and Arnold Mattathil, the second-year students in the BEng in Electronic and
Computer Engineering programme, were awarded the prestigious 2025 Qualcomm Research Scholarship at the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at Dublin City University (DCU).

They were chosen due to their promising commitment and outstanding talent in the field of engineering. This scholarship will provide them with an exceptional opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art research lab for an 8-week period during the summer, with a paid 32-hour week, enabling them to gain invaluable experience that will undoubtedly enhance their career prospects.

QT Technologies Ireland Ltd. (Qualcomm Ireland), a subsidiary of the esteemed US company, collaborated with DCU to offer this distinguished scholarship, showcasing their unwavering commitment to fostering a diverse pool of engineering talent and supporting the next generation of innovators.

Qualcomm is widely recognised for its groundbreaking work on semiconductors, software, and wireless technology services, holding patents integral to 4G and 5G mobile communications. With approximately 650 engineers based in Ireland, Qualcomm Ireland is known for its inclusive staff base and its long-standing support of Irish universities in cultivating and nurturing the future leaders in the engineering field.

Rhys Buggy, Engineer, Staff at Qualcomm Ireland, who was in attendance to present these scholarships remarked:

“I was delighted to attend the DCU Final Year Expo where I could view the final year student projects. It was inspiring to see the diverse projects by students on the day. It highlights the innovative thinking of the future engineers and the value in supporting research and development. I was delighted to be on hand to present Mark and Arnold with their certificates, well done to them again."

“Qualcomm is committed to investing in the next generation of engineering talent. This year’s recipients, Mark Collins and Arnold Mattathil, stood out for their exceptional promise, dedication, and technical skill. The Qualcomm Research Scholarship provides an immersive eight-week, fully funded research placement in a cutting-edge lab, offering hands on experience that empowers these young engineers to drive innovation in areas like semiconductor design, wireless communications, and beyond. Our partnership with DCU reflects Qualcomm’s broader mission to highlight and support STEM education and careers in STEM for all students, addressing tomorrow’s technological challenges.”
