ILP November/December events

DCU ILP are pleased to announce a series of free events for the months of November and December. These events are free of charge, and open to all DCU students and all interested 55+ participants. We encourage participants to book for the event of their choice, as places might be limited in some cases. Booking for each event can be done online (see below). Booking can also be done by emailing ilp.info@dcu.ie, or by phone to 01 7007423.

Old and New photographs event:

Part One:Share Your Photo Album

November 2 (Saturday) - 1pm

November 6 (Wednesday) – 4 pm

November 13 (Wednesday) 4 pm

November 20 (Wednesday) 4 pm

These intergenerational meetings will be run on the model of a “speed-dating” event, in this case a “speed- photo match”. Participants from different generations will be matched according to the themes of their favourite photos. Older and younger participants should bring 4 or 5 (or more) favourite photos from their family albums. Younger participants can also choose photos from their Facebook page, or from their phones. The intergenerational pairs will select two photographs, one from each album, and write a short text about the reasons for choosing the pictures, and a reflection on the similarities and differences between them. These will be posted on the project blog, each pair as a new entry.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

Part Two: New Photographs Competition: “What’s Your Age?”

Workshop on photography (run by Fotosoc): November 13, 5pm)

What does it mean to be young? What does it mean to be old? Is it just a number or is your age more than that – does it define you? This photography competition requires you to take a photograph that symbolises your age. There are three prize categories that your photograph may win: best photograph by an older person, best photograph by a younger person and best overall photograph. Entries will be judged on the basis of their creativity, relevance to the theme and the quality of the photograph.
