DCU Director Prof Joe O’Hara Chairs Keynote Panel at ‘Reconnecting EERA’ Event

Due the challenges posed by the Covid 19 Pandemic the 2020 European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) due to be held in Glasgow was cancelled. In its place an online event ‘Reconnecting EERA’ was organised. The culmination of this week of online symposia, workshops and meetings as a discussion panel which brought three of the keynote speakers from ECER 2020 together. The three - Ramon Flecha, Riyad Shahjahan and Isabel Menezes provided an extended recorded overview of their keynote presentations and added to these with a short introduction summarising their positions at the start of the panel discussion. The wide ranging discussion chaired by Prof O’Hara covered areas of social impact, datafication, democracy and inclusion and provided many hundreds of individuals across Europe and beyond with the opportunity to engage with the panelists and submit focused questions.

Speaking at the end of the session Prof O’Hara said – “ this was an experiment that proved to be a huge success. Despite being physically distanced we managed to create a dynamic and vibrant community of discussion which challenged both participants and the audience. Thanks to all who took part and in particular, thanks to the panelists and organisers”.
