Photographs, old and new
The Intergenerational Learning Programme in DCU is delighted to announce that they have been awarded an Ashoka/Photowings Insight grant for a photography- based project. The ILP submitted a project on the theme of “past, present and future self through photography”, and were one of the 9 projects selected worldwide.
The project is open to all students on the DCU campus, including older participants from DCU ILP and from the wider community. DCU staff are also very welcome to participate.
All events are free of charge, but we would ask participants to register in advance so that we can match the numbers for different generations. You can register for one or both parts of the project. Registration can be done online, by email to cathy.fowley@dcu.ie or ilp.info@dcu.ie or by phone to 01 7007423
This photography project consists of two parts, and you can participate in either or both parts.
Part one: Share your photo album
Dates:
- November 2 (Saturday) - 1pm
- November 6 (Wednesday) – 4 pm
- November 13 (Wednesday) 4 pm
These intergenerational meetings will be run on the model of a “speed-dating” event, in this case a “speed- photo match”. Participants from different generations will be matched according to the themes of their favourite photos. Older and younger participants should bring 4 or 5 (or more) favourite photos from their family albums. Younger participants can also choose photos from their Facebook page, or from their phones. The intergenerational pairs will select two photographs, one from each album, and write a short text about the reasons for choosing the pictures, and a reflection on the similarities and differences between them. These will be posted on the project blog, each pair as a new entry.
Part two: New photographs competition: “What’s your age?”
