International Week of Deaf People
In recognition of International Week of Deaf People 2021, and International Day of Sign Languages 2021, we've teamed up with colleagues from the Marketing Department, and the School of Inclusive and Special Education to translate the DCU logo into Irish Sign Language.
Some steps you can take to make your work practices more inclusive include:
- Enabling your closed captions in Zoom
- Adding closed captions to your videos
- Providing transcripts for presentations
- Booking ISL interpreters for events
In collaboration with the DCU School of Inclusive and Special Education, the DCU HR EDI team are delighted to offer free Irish Language (ISL) Courses to all DCU staff.
Through this free four hour course, DCU staff are introduced to Irish Sign Language (ISL) and will learn the fundamentals of the language including:
- a short history of ISL
- the ISL alphabet
- how to introduce yourself in ISL
- how to describe your family in ISL
- how to describe your daily routine in ISL
Each ISL course is made up of four x 1 hour classes, delivered once a week in person. You can register to take part in courses on either St Patrick's Campus (Wednesdays) or Glasnevin Campus (Fridays).
Places are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis.
