The Graduate Studies Office, together with the Learning & Development section of Human Resources have designed this programme to support PhD supervisors in developing excellent researchers.

Please note that, under DCU Academic Regulations, this training is mandatory for those new to research supervision, and must be undertaken within one year of starting to supervise.

This is a full day session.  To facilitate online delivery, Part 1 will be delivered from 9.30 -1pm and Part 2 will take place from 2-5pm.  Attendance at both sessions is required.

The aims of the programme are to:

  • explore the multifaceted role of supervision in a PhD context
  • provide practical advice on how to establish and maintain the supervisor-student relationship
  • examine the skills in managing expectations and giving constructive, actionable feedback
  • highlight DCU policies and procedures around supervision
