Dr. Harry Esmonde,
B.A. B.A.I. Ph.D
Biography:
After qualifying as a mechanical engineer in 1986 a postgraduate was completed, working between Trinity College and the Commisariate D'Energi Atomique in Saclay France. The work involved characterising the fluid elastic interaction in heat exchangers used in the nuclear industry. A combination of theoretical analysis, experimental measurement and computer simulation led to a design code now employed by the French nuclear industry. Upon finishing the postgraduate in 1989, contract work was undertaken on a Brite Euram project entitled, "Active Sound And Noise Control in Aircraft" at TCD.
The project investigated the possibility of using active sound provided by an array of speakers and controlled using inputs from microphones to dampen engine generated noise. Following this a position was taken with Loctite Research Development and Engineering in Dublin in 1992. This eventually led to the role of management of the Materials Evaluation and Test group. Responsibilities included all aspects of mechanical and electrical testing of new products with the company.
His current position is as a lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Dublin City University which was taken up in 1998.
