Biography:

Brian Corcoran is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and graduated for Bolton Street College of Technology in 1984. Following graduation he worked in the Department of Biotechnology at DCU and was responsible for the installation and management of a Pilot Plant facility. In 1988 he joined Bio-Research Ireland with responsibility for industrial liaison in the food and pharmaceutical industry. In 1993 he became a chartered member of the IMechE and IEI following work as a lecturer in quality control (cGMP, ISO-9000, GEP) at DCU. During this time he was responsible for the development of specifications and plans for the construction of a new Biotechnology Pilot Plant facility within a £14m science block development. In 1995 he joined Jacobs Engineering Ltd as a Projects/Validation Engineer. He gained considerable experience in the Pharmaceutical industry working for such companies as Elan Pharmaceutical, Merck Sharp and Dohme, Yamanouchi Ireland Ltd., Gist Brocades (in Holland) and Syntex Ireland Ltd.

In 1997 he was awarded an MSc in Heat Transfer from Dublin City University for a thesis entitled `Investigation of the effect of fouling on Plate Heat Exchangers'. That same year he joined the Mechanical Engineering Department of DCU as a lecturer in Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Pneumatics/Hydraulic Systems.He is currently pursuing his PhD specialising in the area of computational fluid dynamics.
