Access Course

Introduction:

The Access Course is for students who wish to join the GD/MSc in Computer Aided Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering programme but do not have a primary degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering.

Examples of applicants who would benefit from this equalising course are those with degrees in other engineering disciplines like applied physics and computer science and with National Diplomas.

The access course comprises a number of modules (or their combination) from the School's undergraduate programmes.

Programme Structure:

Students who complete the Access Course with a minimum weighted aggregate mark of 40% can apply for the GD/MSc programme.

Entry Requirements:

The following minimum entry requirements for the Access Course are normally applicable (one of the following):

• A National Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical and/or Manufacturing Engineering plus 3 to 5 years relevant experience (depending on the grade of the award)
  
  
• A degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a science/technology based degree, deemed to be suitable.

Mode of Operation:

The Access Course is currently offered in Part-time (two semesters), Guided-study mode. It can be completed within two semesters (one year). Students can join the programme in October or February every year. Substantial fee support for EU students is available from the HEA Postgraduate Skills Conversion Scheme.
