The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Dublin City University was established in 1987.

Since then the school has been offering the postgraduate degrees of M.Eng. taught classes and Ph.D. by research, with academic staff also pursuing individual research. The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering has been involved in a number of European Union sponsored research programmes as well as many State and Industry funded projects. For information on our liasion details click here.

The school already runs four undergraduate degree, the B.Eng. in Mechatronic Engineering, in conjunction with the School of Electronic Engineering, the Degree in Medical Mechanical Engineering, the Degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and the Degree in Manufacturing Engineering with Business Studies. To facilitate students who are unsure as to which of the latter three programmes they wish to pursue, a limited number of places on the second year of each programme is reserved for students who enter (DC198 MMEN) the undenominated B.Eng. in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering programme.

The current research interests and activities in the school are in the areas of Manufacturing Processes (Forming and Machining), CAD/CAM, High Strain Rate Material Properties, Powder Metallurgy, Numerical Techniques (FEM and FDM), Computational Fluid Dynamics, Impact Strength of Structures, Virtual Reality Modelling, Robot Applications and Surface Engineering. The majority of these students are sponsored by external organisations.

Further information on programmes and modules can be found in the booklet for the Faculty of Engineering & Computing (470KB) which is available for download in PDF format.
