Seminar Series: PPI in research with children and young people

 

Over the next three months the PPI Ignite Network at DCU and the PPI Ignite Network National Office are coordinating a seminar series on public and patient involvement (PPI) in research with children and young people. National and international speakers and PPI contributors will provide examples, best practice and reflections on conducting PPI with children and young people. Following on from this seminar series a Shared Learning Group for PPI with children and young people will be established and initially facilitated by PPI Ignite Network at DCU.

 

Seminar 1 will be led by Professor Laura Lundy (Queen’s University Belfast) and Chaired by Dr. Danielle Kennan (UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre, NUIG). Professor Lundy will speak about a rights based approach to including children and young people in research based on recent examples from mental health research.

 

Dr. Jennifer Preston (University of Liverpool| NIHR Alder Hey Clinical Research Facility|Conect4Children|NIHR CYP MedTech) will provide guidance on developing and operating young people advisory groups as a model to involving children and young people in research in Seminar 2.

 

For Seminar 3 Professor Lisa Gibbs (University of Melbourne) and Dr. Siobhan O’Higgins (NUIG) will focus on participatory health research with children and young people and how technology can be used to involve young people. A number of PPI contributors will also reflect on their experiences of PPI.

 

Finally, Seminar 4 will be delivered by Dr. Edel Tierney (TUSLA) on embedding PPI with children and young people in TUSLA practice and policy with contribution from a PPI member of the TUSLA Independent Research Ethics Committee.
