Overview of FP7 funding for collaboration with Chinese Partners

The main focus of the calls is the integration of research with innovation to tackle societal challenges and create sustainable jobs and growth by giving Europe a lead in the key technology markets of the future. All of the calls are open for the participation of non-European researchers and/or research organisations working alongside their EU counterparts. 

India is considered as an International Cooperation Partner Country (ICPR) - hence with the same rights as member states. An overview of open calls of interest to India can be downloaded here.

Research Fund for International Young Scientists from the National Science Foundation of China.

The Research Fund for International Young Scientists (hereafter abbreviated as the Fund) is oriented to encouraging excellent young foreign scientists to conduct basic research in mainland China, so as to promote the research collaboration and academic exchanges among Chinese and foreign scientists.

Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Scholars from the National Science Foundation of China.

In order to take advantage of the overseas (including Hong Kong and Macao) resources of science and technology and encourage overseas excellent young scholars to serve the
country, The National Science Foundation of China NSFC sets up the Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Scholars to support overseas excellent scholars under the age of 50 to conduct high-level joint research with researchers in mainland China.

International Cooperation Award for Young Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)

The CAS International Cooperation Award for Young Scientists is set up to recognize and award international young scientists and their CAS collaborators who have made substantial progress in research and innovation, and to encourage longer-term international partnership among young scientists and a global networking for excellent research. It is also aimed at fostering and promoting the CAS’s science and technology innovation.

The international candidates MUST:

    have citizenship of a nation that has formal diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China;
    be younger than 45 years of age on January 1 in the year of nomination;
    be full-time employees at universities, research institutions or corporate R&D departments of countries other than the People’s Republic of China;
    have at least one year working experience in any CAS affiliates.

The CAS candidates MUST:

    hold full-time research positions in any CAS affiliates;
    be younger than 45 years of age on January 1 in the year of nomination.

The cooperation partners MUST have cooperated for at least three years, and achieved at least one of the following outstanding results with a CAS institution being the main holder of intellectual property through their cooperation. The Fellowship provides for visits of 12 months duration, and funding covers the personal expenses of the international visitors. 

Applications from CAS institutes and international partner institutions are to be submitted to the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, during two specific periods each year. The first round of applications is from March 1-15 and the second from September 1-15.

Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences

The aim of the Visiting Professorship Program is to enhance the science & technology innovation capacity of CAS institutes by inviting accomplished researchers from overseas to participate in research in CAS with the hope of strengthening the cooperation and exchange between CAS institutes and international research institutions and universities.

The Program is for international scientists either currently or previously working in well-known universities, research institutes or multi-national corporations, who wish to develop an effective long-term collaborative relationship with the CAS. These scientists should have the same or similar research interests as their CAS collaborators. The Program fund will sponsor scientific visits of 2-12 months duration. Both international airfare and personal expenses during visits will be covered. CAS host institutes are responsible for the detailed management of each visit. A visiting professor has successfully conducted the said visit and wishes to seek extended support may apply for an extension through his/her host institute at least two months prior to the completion of the visit.

Applications for the Program may be submitted by a CAS host institute or by a designated international partner institution of the CAS.
