Please click on the headings below for further detail:
Call deadline: 7th March 2025, 5:00pm
The new DCU Strategic Plan commits the university to growing our doctoral student community by 50%, to approximately 1100 students, over the 2023-28 period. This objective is fundamental to our research goals and will be based on growth in the number of full and part-time PhDs, and also in professional doctorates. It will require an increase in external funding, an increase in income from philanthropy and some re-allocation of our own funds. In addition, for a growth in doctoral student numbers to be impactful, we also need to ensure that all our students have the necessary supports and supervision to publish during the doctorate journey, at a level reflecting good performance for their discipline.
DCU staff in each of our Faculties have reported that they have some capacity to partly-fund new PhD studentships, from personal research accounts or from external sources, but that they do not have sufficient funds to cover the full cost. We are pleased, therefore, to be able to launch a second round of this internal call, which offers co-funding from Research Support Services, to help academics release these funds in a manner that helps us grow our PhD numbers.
PhD scholarships in any discipline/School in DCU will be supported by this call. Applicants can be individuals or groups/Schools/Centres, and applicants can provide their share of the co-funding from an existing balance in a DCU “P” or “S” sub-cost, including personal research accounts or from a new commitment from an external source. Co-funding cannot be provided from normal annual School/Faculty budgets (i.e., sub-costs starting with the letter “D”).
Full details and the application form are attached and are also on the internal funding webpage here.
Applications will be ranked on the following two criteria:
1. Strategic fit with DCU research (50 marks)
2. The track record of the School or Centre, and PI (50 marks)
A single combined PDF of the application form must be emailed to Research and Innovation Support at vpr@dcu.ie by 5pm on Friday, 7th March 2025.
Enquires should be directed to Kieran O'Dwyer.

The Conference and Events Sponsorship (CES) Scheme aims to create an opportunity to host health-research related events, workshops, or conferences in Ireland.
The CES scheme will have two cycles in 2025, opening in January and June respectively.
Funding of up to €5,000 is available per grant.
All events, workshops, seminars, or national conferences must be scheduled to take place between 1st June 2025 and 31st May 2026.
The HRB has introduced a randomisation process in the selection of successful grants in the CES scheme. A shortened application form will reflect this change. This randomisation process will replace the selection panel review process previously used. Following an eligibility check of applications (as previously), a randomised selection process will identify successful applications in a way that ensures that selection from all eligible applications is progressed in an efficient, unbiased and transparent way.
Further details on the scheme can be found on the HRB call webpage here.
Contact helen.burke@dcu.ie with any queries.
TORA deadline: 19th February 2025
Call deadline: 5th March 2025
Reminder about this forthcoming deadline and the maximum permitted applications in certain fields of this Call:
For Cooperation Partnership applications submitted to Erasmus+ National Agencies in the fields of school education, vocational education and training, adult education, and youth, the same organisation (one OID) cannot be involved in more than 10 applications overall per deadline, either as applicant or partner.
Consequently, there is a risk of PIs getting involved in preparing a proposal that will be ineligible. It's therefore imperative that the Research Office (contact Sophie Ball) tracks participation in these calls and ensures that we do not exceed our limit.
We currently have six applications in process, so four more applications can be registered.
Note that Cooperation Partnerships in the field of Higher Education are NOT affected.
See the Erasmus+ Guide for further Call information, and contact DCU’s Erasmus Development Officer Sophie Ball.
